						The exhibition at Sagrada Mercancía consisted of a gestural intervention that reconfigured the space through the relocation of the gallery stairs to its center. This displacement shifted the stairs from functional architecture to sculptural object, activating a new reading of circulation and space.

	«A veces, la poesía es un no» – Anne Boyer
La presente exposición de Maureen corresponde a la última acción de trabajo de una serie de intervenciones hechas en diversos espacios de arte independiente. A través del viaje se conecta el conjunto conceptual de la experiencia de la artista en tres momentos y ciudades diferentes: Madrid, Guadalajara y Santiago. El acontece de cada una de estas acciones ha estado afecta al repliegue de una sencilla, pero radical idea: trabajar única y exclusivamente con lo que hay en el espacio. La artista ha ido elaborando una manera de comprender la image como espacio, dejando corporalizar en el espectador el potencial experiencial de la solitaria idea en que se sostiene la intervención arquitectónica realizada en el espacio. Para esta situación específica, solo sustracción y desplazamiento, ni ascenso ni descenso. La apertura a un campo perceptual que va material e inmaterialment enlazado el sentirimagen-espacio-cuerpo como un conjunto procesual efímero; un bloque estético-sentimental provisorio sobre y del espacio.

La imagen misma es aquí el cuerpo del espacio trabajado desde la sustracción y desplazamiento de la escalera; una suspensión que logra algo inusual y al mismo tiempo familiar: volver a sentir el espacio vivo desde su propia dimensión de vacío contenedor. El gesto es la forma de una actitud política de resistencia que escapa al código y a la codificación habitual del espacio como lugar exhibitivo. En ese horizonte de sentido, el concepto de exposición es sometido a una estrecha relación —política de inmanencia— con el ejercicio de pensar el arte a favor de una experiencia espacial suspendida de todo anhelo de producción útil, suma o progresión de cualquier tipo. Es una invitación a comprender el fenómeno artístico desde la más radical de las premisas minimalistas: la sustracción de cualquier contenido o temática representacional. En palabras de Maureen: No mirar hacia lo que debe añadirse, sino hacia lo que ya estaba allí, lo que podría estar profundamente dentro, olvidado o perdido, y extraerlo. Aunque sea por un breve momento, un acontecimiento es algo sin nombre: algo que no es ni nuevo ni viejo, sino un estado, una energía del tiempo. Una belleza negativa, una sensibilidad crítica y una sinceridad antiaspiracional, pues, sabemos que ninguna de las cosas que se relaciona al arte de los espacios de arte independiente son realmente muy edificantes para el sistema. No obstante, hay ahí un tipo de resistencia, una resistencia hecha en el coraje de rescatar la insolencia de vivir liberándonos de un arte que simplemente se conforma con sumar imágenes al mundo.

	The exhibition emerged through an ongoing exchange of mailed notes, instructions, and
materials between the artists across their respective locations, culminating in a final
installation that embodies this process of distance, translation, and collaboration.

						
The final works were realized in aluminium, a material central to Honda’s sculptures, and
followed the process of instruction and script writing applied in Muse’s work.

						The exhibition at La Papeleria consisted of a series of gestural actions designed to unveil
the space. It was decided to remove half of a wall to present an image or pattern, and the
exhibition was documented through photographs, highlighting the concept of the space in
a state of constant process and renewal.

El espacio es el cuerpo, es la imagen, el cuerpo es espacio.Maureen Muse parte el espacio, desvelando sus interiores.El gesto es una herida que acaricia el local. Se apropia de lo arquitectónico, que aquí entendemos en sentido
amplio, de sus historias, de todas las imágenes que aquí se han albergado. Suspendiéndose en un constante proceso
de resignificación del espacio: el espacio es cuerpo; el espacio es imagen.

					
Pero, a la vez: el cuerpo es imagen. Y la imagen es espacio.

					
Maureen reflexiona sobre qué es una imagen, sus condiciones más intrínsecas. Con este tríptico conceptual –
imagen, cuerpo, espacio– que se intercambian mientras mantienen sus propias identidades, emerge la tensión
queatraviesa su práctica entre cine, instalación y fotografía.

					
Se presenta en esta exhibición lo que siempre ha estado allí, y por fin, se desvela en su desnudez: una imagen-
estructura-cuerpo, latente y presente a la vez, existiendo en una contradicción que no se sana, si no que se
multiplica y se estira en sí misma.

					
La imagen ya existe, la artista solamente asume el gesto de desvelarla.

And, at the same time: the body is the image. And the image is the space.

					
Maureen explores the nature of the image, its most intrinsic conditions. Within this conceptual triptych –
image, body, space– terms that she uses interchangeably while maintaining their own essence, the tension that
pierces through her practice of cinema, installation, and photography emerges.

					
The exhibition presents what has always been there, and at last, it is unveiled in its bareness: an image-
structure-body, both latent and present, existing in a contradiction that does not heal, but rather multiplies
and stretches within itself.

					
The image already exists. The artist merely assumes the gesture of unveiling it.

						For the exhibition, the work was the light moving through the gallery windows. To
continue working with this material, the back door of the gallery was opened to let in
more light. The ceiling lights were also removed so the space would be filled only with
natural light.

						
The process continued through a commitment to working exclusively with materials
already present within the exhibition space. The dimensions of the garage gate from the
lower gallery were measured and its form was reconstructed using mud collected from the
exterior garden, translating an architectural element into a provisional, site-responsive
material gesture.

					En San Miguel, Maureen Muse convierte la luz natural en materia prima y en gesto radical. La obra no es otra
cosa que la coreografía silenciosa de la luz entrando por tres ventanas y una puerta, desplazándose a lo largo
del día sobre el espacio vacío de la galería. Es un cine sin película, una imagen en fuga.

					
En el segundo piso, la forma y el tamaño de la cortina de la cochera reaparecen, pero ya no cuelgan ni separan;
reposan en el suelo, hecha de tierra y lodo recogido del jardín. Esta imagen replicada no es una copia, sino un
traslado que transforma lo familiar en presencia tangible y corpórea. La tierra otorga peso, textura y gravedad
a la forma.

					
Así, la muestra funciona como correspondencia entre lo etéreo y lo terroso, lo que entra y lo que permanece;
lo que escapa y lo que se arraiga. En la planta baja, la luz natural entra, se desplaza y desaparece, construyendo
una imagen coreografiada por el tiempo; en la planta alta, la tierra se afirma y permanece, construyendo una
imagen que ocupa y pesa. Ambas obras se responden: la luz atraviesa, la tierra soporta; la imagen huye, la forma
se detiene.

					
En este enfrentamiento poético se despliega una tensión entre lo vivo y lo muerto, entre lo celestial y lo
doméstico, entre protección y revelación, como la figura de San Miguel, que en muchas tradiciones es defensor
contra la oscuridad, luz guerrera que se desliza y no se deja poseer, y, al mismo tiempo, presencia material que
resiste. Juntas, estas imágenes, una aérea, otra terrestre, nos enseñan a mirar lo que siempre estuvo ahí, y a
reconocer en lo cotidiano otras potencias.

						The centerpiece was a large sculptural work suspended from the building’s highest point,
constructed entirely from discarded construction materials sourced from buildings in
Mexico City.

						
Within the exhibition space, two pieces of discarded wood—found on the streets of Mexico
City—were transformed into L-shaped forms that mirrored the dimensions of thegallery itself. Given the ephemeral nature of the installation, the work was documented
through photography as it was dismantled and discarded once more—treating the gallery
as an active site.

						La Boca de Sada Abe depicts the mouth of Sada Abe, a woman whose story was portrayed in
Nagisa Ōshima’s 1976 film, In the Realm of the Senses.

						
The 16mm film captures a scene from the film where the actress’s mouth is shown during sex.
The film is part of a series that resignifies images from cinema that have faced censorship.
